Congratulations to Tina Escaja, Professor of Romance Languages & Linguistics at #UVM, for being one of 3 professors to receive our institution's highest academic honor--the University Distinguished Professor Award.
As the Director of the Gender, Sexuality & Women's Studies program at UVM, Tina is a frequent collaborator and supporter of the Prism Center, as well as our other campus identity centers.
Tina's contributions are extensive, but perhaps most applicable is her work as a member of the American Academy of Spanish Language, where she is actively working on strategies to approach a gender-inclusive (degendering) Spanish language--a challenging body of work given the strong binary-gendered construct of all Romance languages.
Tina is also an activist, poet, and inventor (and part-time robot creator). One supporter of her work shared, "[her work] is a timely series of interventions that help us rethink how women's bodies and identities are constituted and interpellated in an increasingly cybernetic and digital world...[her work] has continued to explore themes of identity, feminism, [and] posthumanism in the context of cybernetic technologies and digital media."
Thank you Drx. Tina Escaja for your important contributions to the academy and our campus community!
