To mark Argentina’s annual Memory, Truth and Justice Day (on 24 March 1976, Argentina's military dictatorship began) the Argentina Solidarity Campaign, the Institute of Latin American Studies, and the Argentina Research Network will host a range of speakers reflecting on the human rights abuses, mass torture and Disappearances committed by the military dictatorships of the 1970s and 80s in Argentina and Chile. More recent cases such as the illegal detention of activist Milagro Sala will also be discussed. While the event is free, registration is required. Panel Members:

Alberto Hinrichsen – Chilean academic and activist imprisoned in Argentina under Videla and who sought exile to the United Kingdom in the 1970s.

Vicky Grandon – Volunteer with the Argentina Human Rights Campaign in the 1970s set up to raise awareness in the UK of the Argentina dictatorship's human rights abuses, Co-ordinator of Sheffield Argentina Campaign which focused on adoption of disappeared children and political prisoners.

Nick Caistor – Latin American Bureau and campaigner against the military dictatorship for the first incarnation of the Argentina Solidarity Campaign in the 1970s.

Marcela López Levy - Argentina Solidarity Campaign/Latin American Bureau and author of ‘Argentina under the Kirchners: the Legacy of Left Populism’ (LAB/Practical Action, 2017).
