Y para pasar el tiempo sin solidarizar
con ella, mas allá de contener este fuerte deseo
de dormirme,
para siempre,
con ella
lagrimeé,
soñando que salía del campo
aquel movimiento que se suspendía
arriba de los trigos del verano, y avanzaba y decía,
--me decía:
es un cocodrilo, y pensaba --yo pensaba
¿Qué les pasará a mis hijos?
Y la niña
¿adonde estaba?

Viré para dormirme,
molesta la cabeza,
la puse de costado.

Pero dormí, y el monstruo sigue allí - me acecha.
Cruzo la calle, abandono el poblado, los trigos, el calor
entonces
se acerca a mi hija, le grito -- yo grito: Corre,
mira, allí veo que hay una casa, ¿una posada?
Llama -- grito,
pero ya el caimán de bocas desbordadas
cocodrilo o lo que fuera
la arrastraba, y así
han pasado ya casi seis semanas
y aun
estoy viva
y sigo soñando noche a noche
entera
que me matan, los matan, los ...
la muerte ronda la casa,
-- esta es la casa.


Reviso mis archivos, la memoria dice basta.
Vuelvo a aquel amor de mis amores
quien me dice
que tiene un preferido en bastidores, y me recuenta:
su interés por su muerto, el poeta Briones.

Toma mi mano, amiga:
despierta esta mañana.
Sonríeme: la muerte es muy mala camarada.
