The story behind the arpillera collection belonging to MEMCH Los Angeles, a solidarity group formed by Chilean women exiled during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. The collection, which tells the story of everyday resilience and struggle in Chile during difficult times, finally returns to Chile to become part of the arpillera collection in the Museo de la Memoria y Derechos Humanos in Santiago. Piece by piece, the history of Chile during that period is reconstructed, thanks to the efforts made to bring home these threaded expressions after years abroad. The film is a testimony to the role women played, women both inside and outside of Chile, in denouncing the repression of the military regime and in the struggle for democracy.…

  One of the better stories I have read in a long time. Dr. Frank Mayfield was touring Tewksbury Institute when, on his way out, he accidentally collided with an elderly floor maid. To cover the awkward moment Dr. May field started asking questions. "How long have you worked here?" "I've worked here almost since the place opened," the maid replied. "What can you tell me about the history of this place?" he asked. "I don't think I can tell you anything, but I could show you something." With that, she took his hand and led him down to the basement under the oldest section of the building. She pointed to one of what looked like small prison cells, their iron bars rusted with age, and said, "That's the cage where they used to keep Annie Sullivan." "Who's Annie?" the doctor asked.
