We are Bordando por la Memoria. A collective from the Chilean exiled community and our supporters.

We believe in human rights and international solidarity.

We are embroidering the names of over 3,000 men, women and children disappeared and politically executed during the Chilean civic-military dictatorship between 1973-1989.

Our aim is to make collaborative textile pieces that highlight the need for justice and to keep alive a part of history that in Chile today is being systematically eradicated.

Stitch by stitch we are rescuing the memoria of each and every one of Chile’s disappeared and politically executed men, women, and children.

Stitch by stitch we’re raising awareness and denouncing the impunity that still exists in Chile today.

We are an open group and we welcome collaboration.

We invite all individuals, groups, human rights defenders, and social justice groups to come and embroider with us and share stories of resistance.

La mamá de Gimena, que es medica, vive otra vez en Chile..

Gimenita, su hija, vive aquí, y es maestra.

Esto que puso hoy me conmovió:

Bordado de mi mamá.

El diseño es de Helene Zarur y el dibujo inspirado en la cara de Clivia.

Las dos amigas de mi mamá.

El diseño original tenía pelo verde pero mi mamá lo cambió a multicoloures.

Tristemente, Helen se quitó la vida cuando estaba en el exilio en Francia. Mi mamá me contó que Helen se suicidó en el mar y que cuando estaban presas en Tres Alamos, ella siempre cantaba 'Alfonsina y el mar'.

Estos son cuentos dolorosos pero necesarios de nuestra historia, y hoy la recuerdo con este bordado y como muchas de sus compañeras la recuerdan, cada vez que miran a este diseño...
