TURQUIA mosaicos griegos
A team of archaeologists led by Professor Kutalmış Görkay, of the University of Ankara in Turkey, has unearthed three ancient Greek mosaics in the Turkish city of Zeugma, near the border with Syria. The excavation project, which began in 2007, was speeded up by the flooding in the area due to the construction of a dam.
Fearing that the ancient treasures of Zeugma would be lost forever, archaeologists rushed to excavate, protect and preserve the relics of the past, including glass mosaics dating back to the 2nd century BC. Although part of the city is now submerged by water, excavations continue in the hope of discovering other finds.
According to Görkay, the colorful mosaics were an integral part of the houses of the ancient city.
