Polonia: anti-Nazi resistance fighter Maria Vetulani de Nisau
HERstory - On this day, 27th November 1898 office worker and anti-Nazi resistance fighter Maria Vetulani de Nisau was born in Poland. She married a communist and was forced to flee to the USSR, until her husband was arrested by the Soviets so she was forced to flee the USSR with her son. Under Nazi occupation she joined the resistance and hid Jewish people in her apartment. She fought in the armed Warsaw uprising in August 1H944 and was wounded and hospitalised. Tragically she was later murdered by the Nazis alongside all the other patients and hospital staff
